The Dirty Dozen (What You Need To Eat Organic)

Food can be our medicine or our poison.

Something we speak a lot to our patients about here in the clinic is switching to organic produce.

This is incredibly important in making food therapeutic, and not a source of toxicity!

We make this recommendation for everyone, and it is especially important for those struggling with

  • hormone imbalance

  • infertility and difficulty conceiving

  • autoimmune conditions

  • eczema

  • fatigue

  • gut problems

  • hypersensitivity

As someone with an organic diet, I know that it can take some time to find the staples that are going to work for you, and often people ask me where to start when it comes to cleaning up their diet.

The Environmental Working Group (EWG) in the US is a not-for-profit organisation that evaluate and rank foods according to their pesticide contamination.

So, yes, there are foods that are more important to focus on being organic!

As a general rule, anything that grows under the ground and has a thick skin is a little more protected from pesticides, but at the end of the day, when the soil is contaminated, so will be the produce it bears.

But, if you’re struggling and don’t know where to start, these are the things you need to pay attention to purchasing organic, as they are the most toxic-laden produce:

  1. Strawberries

  2. Spinach

  3. Nectarines

  4. Apples

  5. Grapes

  6. Peaches

  7. Cherries

  8. Pears

  9. Tomatoes

  10. Celery

  11. Potatoes

  12. Sweet bell peppers

  13. Hot peppers

The other thing to be mindful of is environmental toxicity in your home and where cleaning products may be contributing to this.

But start with what you’re putting in your mouth, and then work on what you’re breathing in and putting on your skin.

Food is supposed to be our medicine.

Eating organic is an essential part of it being that for us.

Much love,
